Out-Of-Home Displays

Over the years, we have collaborated with various artists, non-profits, and brands to extend their reach to the public using video billboards worldwide. Some favorites include displays for MTA Arts & Design, Brooks Brothers, and International Rescue Committee.

Even While The Dust Moves
MTA Arts & Design

Working together with renowned artist Simona Prives, AFX coordinated this installation of over 20 unique 2-minute long videos across 52 screens, with sizes varying from 2 feet to 2 stories tall. These displays played hourly at New York City’s MTA Fulton Center for 6 months in 2021.

Each final animation consisted of hundreds of layers including live-action video, animated drawings, and archive footage. Our team coordinated some of the video shoots, specifically those with the NY Trapeze School. The artwork pieces were designed and animated by multimedia artist Simona Prives.

The team at AFX managed the displays in terms of logistics of the location, formatting for different sized screens, exporting, media management, delivery of files to client, and repeated in-person testing of videos on-location in the subway stations. Due to the unique arrangement and locations of the displays in the subway stations, our team came up with a solution for the lighting changes and color variations, to have the artwork display consistently across all of the varying screens.

200th Anniversary Campaign
Brooks Brothers

AFX has worked with Brooks Brothers on several different campaigns, but when they came to us to celebrate their 200th Anniversary, we knew it would be spectacular!

We condensed two centuries of Brooks Brothers style into five 90-second spots. Using a blend of lifestyle pictures, runway moments, and clips from over 50 ad campaigns, we combined everything together with custom-made transitions and text animations.

These videos were used for web, social media, and global in-store displays. They also were featured at their Gala event hosted at Jazz at Lincoln Center and billboards worldwide - like NYC, Tokyo and Seoul!

A person is drawing a colorful picture of a family in a boat, depicting a man with an oar, a woman holding a baby, and two children. The logo for the International Rescue Committee is visible in the corner. The hashtag #WorldRefugeeDay is also present.

What made this project unique was having the videos function in a live 3D space, as the video billboards were wrapped around buildings. It was very satisfying to see this piece come together and be broadcasted in Times Square for millions of people to see.

Coincidentally, this was the second project we’ve worked on that featured Diala Brisly’s art! The first project was animated segments for 8 Borders, 8 Days, a documentary by Amanda Bailly about the Syrian refugee crisis.

World Refugee Day
International Rescue Committee

To commemorate World Refugee Day, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) took over three massive billboard screens in Times Square. These several-stories-tall screens showcased artwork and footage of Syrian illustrator, Diala Brisly. This animation work was completed in collaboration with Rocketship Creative

Digital billboard displaying a message from the International Rescue Committee honoring refugee artists for their creativity to connect, located in an urban area with visible street signs and buildings.

The image features a person with a necklace, photographed outdoors. There are also signs nearby, including a 'no standing anytime' sign.
